Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how the Catchbook iPhone app and the catchbook.ftstudios.app website handle your information. Catchbook is operated by FT Studios ("we", "us", "our"). Questions? [email protected].
1. What the app stores on your device and in your iCloud
When you use Catchbook, you create data such as:
- Catches: species, date, time, photos, length, weight, gear, bait, method, and notes you add.
- Spots: GPS pins you choose to drop on the map.
- Weather and conditions associated with a catch.
- Personal records, badges, and statistics derived from your catches.
- App preferences and settings.
This data is stored in two places:
- On your iPhone, using Apple's SwiftData framework.
- In your private iCloud database (CloudKit), if you are signed in to iCloud and have iCloud enabled for Catchbook. This sync is managed by Apple; we do not have access to its contents.
2. Permissions the app asks for
| Permission | What it's used for |
|---|---|
| Camera | Take photos of your catches, measure fish in AR, and identify species using on-device machine learning. |
| Location (When In Use) | Pin where a catch happened and fetch the weather for that spot. |
| Photo Library | Save catch photos to your library and attach existing photos to a catch. |
You can change or revoke any of these permissions at any time in iOS Settings → Catchbook. The app remains usable without them, with reduced features.
3. Apple services Catchbook uses
Catchbook is built on Apple's frameworks and uses the following Apple services:
- iCloud (CloudKit) — to sync your catches across your devices, in your private CloudKit database.
- WeatherKit — to fetch weather for catch locations. Approximate location is sent to Apple to retrieve weather; we never receive it. WeatherKit usage is subject to Apple's WeatherKit attribution.
- MapKit — to render maps. Map tile requests are made directly to Apple.
- Vision and Core ML — to identify fish species from photos. This runs entirely on your device. Images are not uploaded.
- ARKit — to measure fish using your camera. This runs entirely on your device.
- StoreKit (App Store) — to handle Catchbook Pro subscriptions. Payment information is processed by Apple. We receive only an anonymous receipt confirming your subscription status.
4. What we do not do
- We do not operate any server that receives or stores your fishing data.
- We do not use third-party analytics, crash reporting, or advertising SDKs.
- We do not track you across apps or websites.
- We do not sell or share your data with anyone, because we do not have it.
- We do not require an account, an email address, or a sign-in.
5. Your rights and choices
Because your data stays on your device and in your iCloud:
- To access your data, open the Catchbook app — it is already there.
- To delete your data, delete the app and remove its data from iCloud at iOS Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage → Catchbook.
- To export your data, use the Export feature inside the Catchbook app.
If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection under GDPR / UK GDPR with respect to any limited operational data we may process (for example, subscription receipts via Apple). You can contact us at [email protected] to exercise any of these rights. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
6. Children's privacy
Catchbook is rated 4+ and is suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. Because we run no servers that receive user data, there is no data for us to collect from any user.
7. The catchbook.ftstudios.app website
The Catchbook website is a static marketing site hosted on Cloudflare Pages. We do not run analytics scripts on it. Cloudflare collects basic technical request logs (IP address, user agent, referrer) for security and abuse prevention — see Cloudflare's Privacy Policy for details. The website does not set tracking cookies.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Catchbook evolves. We will update the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, notify you in the app. Continued use of Catchbook after a change constitutes acceptance.
